I’m quite sure most of you, if not all, have heard the saying “It takes a village.”
I have never been more certain of this truth ever in my life. Having 3 daughters and two of them only 14 months apart I learned rather quickly that I needed a community of other strong families to help. There was a 2 year period in our lives where we lived in a different community. Now, before I go on I’m a firm believer that things happen for a reason and that God puts us in places for a reason and for a certain time. When my oldest was only 6 months we moved about 2 hours away from any friends and family that I knew, which made relying on them more difficult. But, God put me in the right church and right groups where I met some amazing moms that were there during, what I consider to be the hardest job EVER! I’m forever grateful to that community for their help and guidance and through that I made some forever friends.
In each of the communities we lived in, my parents made sure they were there to help, they’re amazing, they would travel 7+ hours to help. Whether it was to help cook, clean, organize, play with their grandkids, they did it. I was also blessed with some pretty great in-laws that helped too! So, you could say I’m pretty blessed a terrific family. If you have parents and/or in - laws in your life that are willing to help when they can don’t take it for granted. There are many moms and dads out there that don’t have one or both parents around to help with their grandkids.
As we all know, all good things can come to a close - a different chapter in our lives began to develop. We were moving back to where we lived for the majority of our marriage. Ok, God, what are you doing? You put in me in a community where I had to start all over and meet people, and when I finally made some great friends and started to develop a likeness to this town you up and move us....again?
At the same time I was excited to be going back where it all began and have since made some more new and forever friends. My girls are in an amazing school where everyone really is like family ( I hope I’m not the only who feels that way....could be creepy). But, when I drop them off at school I know they are in good hands with their teachers and staff. We are also members of a church that my husband grew up in - so it really is like family!
If you are looking for a community of friends and family, they are not always found in a church and if you aren’t a Christian or a church goer, I recommend going to the library to story times - that’s where I met one of my closest friends. At our local YMCA they have what we call wiggles and giggles. I also made some friends there too. It all comes down to you getting out there and meeting people. And if you have trouble meeting people, start small. Start by going to a church or the library. I can honestly say I have never met a mean person at a church or library.
I hope this encourages you get out there and find a village of moms and families that will help guide you and encourage you. Because we all know that parenting is one of, if not the, hardest job out there.
Find a village, just make sure it’s the right village!
Be blessed. Believe. Achieve.
