We all have friends, and if you’re like most people you have at least 1 friend who is in direct sales, also known as, mlm, or my personal favorite, pyramid scheme. I’m not writing about pyramid schemes, because they don’t really exist anymore, proper direct sales companies are heavily monitored by the federal government and if they happen to get through the loopholes, they are quickly shut down.
So, what I am writing about today is what to do when your friend in one of the thousands of direct sales companies approaches you.
1. Ignore your friend, whether it’s via text, voicemail, email, Snapchat, instagram, no matter what media platform or how excited your friend is, just ignore him/her. After all, they just found a way to possibly make an income and possibly found a product that you would like as well. But, I get it, you’re bombarded with ads from multi million dollar companies daily. You’re tired of being “marketed” too. So, just ignore them. Just remember though, that anytime you contact your friend after that, he/she will most likely bring up their business that they are excelling in.
2. Lie - tell you’re friend you’ve already heard about their company and tried their products and it’s just not for you. Lying is always the best way to win friends and influence people.
3. Unfriendly and block your friend on ALL social media platforms and then warn all your mutual friends (and non mutual friends, because you never know he/she could be stalking your friends list) that you might possibly be contacted by your friend about some business (which you can’t remember the name) and product that you haven’t actually tried so you don’t know if it works, but since it’s a network marketing business, it must be scam.
4. Research - and then present your research that you found on Google from several unrepeatable blogs that this particular network marketing business does NOT work. Based on 2 peer reviews you are certain it’s a scam and the company is only after your money (kind of like Walmart, Target, or any big business store).
5. Finally - Warn your friend to leave the company and not waste anymore money on this “business,” but instead to go in with them on their own business adventure selling “antiques.”
Whew - you have now successfully learned what to do when you’re approached by a friend in a network marketing business.
